about

Moving on from the Belly Dance and Darbuka in which Jane Austen's subtext of Sense and Sensuality is given form in the celebration of fulfillment, this Delta Stomp tracks back to the primal hunger when hope itself is obscure as its object, and hopelessness is a starting point rather than a conclusion. A step beyond Lacanian 'absence'.

This song also marks the debut of the Vampire Viola ... details of which you may find in the the track credits, after these lyrics:

lyrics

1: Lament

I saw something over there

An’ I wish …
That it was over here.

Let’s try calling it over!

This viola was crafted out of wood hewn from the Carpathian forests, and finished in Budapest by Ungri Ferenc, of the ancient family of Gypsy musicians and instrument makers.

It was discovered by the musician and instrument builder Martin Swan of Edinborough,

who brought it to England in 2008 where it featured in a variety of Gloucestershire orchestras, until passed on to me in June, 2010. I aim to do honour to these good people and to become, in my turn, a worthy guardian of this fine instrument.

This song was crafted for my Texas Honey, Susi.

John Ward of Milwaukee is my friend and colleague - a musician and recording engineer who kindly took my work and made it ready for your listening.
